COMPEL Glossary / body-of-knowledge

Body of Knowledge

A Body of Knowledge (BoK) is the complete, structured set of concepts, terms, theories, practices, tools, and standards that define a professional discipline and are required for competent practice within it.

What this means in practice

The COMPEL Body of Knowledge encompasses all methodology content across the four certification levels, from foundational concepts to advanced portfolio leadership and industry standards contribution. For practitioners, the BoK serves as both the curriculum for certification preparation and the ongoing reference for professional practice. Module 3.5, Article 10 addresses the stewardship of the COMPEL Body of Knowledge as a core AITGP responsibility, including how the BoK evolves through research, practice innovation, and community contribution to remain current as the AI transformation field advances.

Why it matters

A well-maintained Body of Knowledge provides the structured intellectual foundation for consistent professional practice, ensuring that practitioners share common concepts, terminology, and standards. Without it, AI governance practice fragments into inconsistent individual approaches that cannot be evaluated, compared, or improved systematically. The BoK serves as both the curriculum for certification and the ongoing reference for professional decision-making.

How COMPEL uses it

The COMPEL Body of Knowledge encompasses all methodology content across four certification levels. It is the curriculum foundation for the People pillar's training and certification programs during Organize. Stewardship of the BoK is an AITGP responsibility, with evolution driven by action research during the Learn stage. The BoK is continuously updated through practitioner contributions, ensuring the framework remains current as the AI transformation field advances.
