COMPEL Glossary / vendor-ecosystem
Vendor Ecosystem
A vendor ecosystem is the network of external technology providers, service partners, cloud platforms, specialized AI tool vendors, and consulting firms that an organization relies on for AI capabilities, infrastructure, and expertise.
What this means in practice
Managing the vendor ecosystem requires strategic decisions about vendor selection, concentration risk, contractual governance, performance monitoring, and relationship management. For organizations, over-reliance on a single vendor creates dangerous lock-in while excessive vendor proliferation creates integration complexity and governance overhead. In COMPEL, vendor ecosystem management is covered in Module 4.4, Article 8 on vendor and partner ecosystem operating integration within the AI operating model.
