COMPEL Glossary / subgroup-coverage

Subgroup coverage

The representation of protected or intersectional groups in a dataset relative to their prevalence in the target population.

What this means in practice

Under-representation causes silent model failures on those groups; over-representation can bias predictions toward them. A bias-readiness audit quantifies coverage before training rather than waiting for deployment disparate-impact findings.

  • Data quality dimension — A measurable attribute of data integrity — accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness, validity, uniqueness, representativeness — used as a scoring axis in a data-readiness rubric.
