COMPEL Glossary / pseudonymization

Pseudonymization

Pseudonymization replaces identifying information with artificial identifiers while maintaining a secured re-identification mapping.

What this means in practice

Unlike anonymization, pseudonymized data remains personal data under GDPR but reduces privacy risk during processing. For organizations training AI, it enables data use while reducing unauthorized access exposure. In COMPEL, it is assessed within data governance controls of the Technology and Governance pillars.
