Four Pillars of AI Transformation
The Four Pillars -- People, Process, Technology, and Governance -- are the four interdependent structural foundations of AI transformation in the COMPEL framework.
What this means in practice
Research consistently shows that organizations achieving the highest returns from AI invest roughly equal effort across all four pillars, with top-performing companies spending only 35% of AI budgets on technology and the remaining 65% on talent development, process redesign, and governance. Weakness in any single pillar compromises the others: Technology without People produces unused platforms; People without Process creates capable teams working at cross-purposes; Process without Governance generates compliance risk; Governance without Technology produces unenforceable policies. The COMPEL maturity model maps 18 assessment domains across these four pillars.
