COMPEL Glossary / enterprise-resource-planning-erp

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)

ERP systems are integrated business software suites that manage core organizational processes including finance, supply chain, manufacturing, human resources, and procurement.

What this means in practice

ERP systems (such as SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft Dynamics) contain some of an organization's most valuable structured data and most critical business processes, making them frequent integration targets for AI capabilities. Common AI-ERP integrations include demand forecasting models feeding supply chain planning, anomaly detection monitoring financial transactions, and intelligent automation processing invoices and purchase orders. ERP integration is often the most complex AI deployment challenge because of legacy architectures, customized configurations, and the critical nature of the systems involved. COMPEL's integration architecture assessment (Domain 12) specifically evaluates this capability.
